contact GONZO are performance artists with a punch. They’ve tussled and rumbled their way through backstreets, parks, train stations, theatres and museums around the world to be with us at SuperDeluxe@Artspace.

This extremely physical company from Osaka have made a name for themselves through numerous (occasionally guerrilla) performances. Narrative threads are conspicuously absent in the contact GONZO methodology, which fuses the dance logic of Contact Improvisation with Hunter S. Thompson’s gonzo aesthetic.

At some times, their performances appear as mere fist fighting, but at others, as sophisticated dance. In their work, seemingly nonchalant encounters quickly escalate to Fight Club intensity as contact GONZO explore the philosophy of pain resolved through hard-gained technique.
