PHIL DADSON
Phil Dadson is a New Zealand- based sound and inter-media artist. He was the founder of New Zealand’s most original rhythm and performance group, From Scratch (1974 – 2003), the ex- foundation group for Scratch Orchestra in London. A multi-disciplinary artist, Dadson’s work includes performance, video installation, film and digital image, experimental musical instruments, graphic scores, composition, improvisations, sound and kinetic sculptures.
Dadson has performed extensively and collaborated on many projects both locally and internationally. Highlights include Urban Devas, Firestarters (with New Zealand Trio), Tongues of the Relics, Cinema of the Wobbly Pivot, S3D (ear and eye) festival in Auckland, Akau Tangi wind sculpture in New Zealand, videos and films including BodyTok, Breath of Wind and Tapping the Pulse (1971-2005), NOWNOW festival in Sydney, World Wide Video festival in Amsterdam and Polar Projects video installation in New Zealand. FromScratch have worked with artists and musicians such as Akio Suzuki, Michael Saup, Keiji Haino, Carl Stone, Koichi Makigami, EARS and others.
